MASTERS IN ECONOMICS (MA ECONOMICS) ENTRANCE
Masters in Economics is a 2 year post graduation course specialized in the field of economics. It equips students with the knowledge of core microeconomics, quantitative methods, econometric modelling, macroeconomic policies and other economic areas of study.
Admission in MA Economics is given through an entrance test which is individually conducted for various universities. The entrance test tests the students on four major areas:
- Microeconomic
- Macroeconomics
- Statistics & Econometrics
- Mathematics
Students generally start their preparation for the entrance exam in the 2nd or 3rd (final) year of their graduation. The major and famous books in consideration while preparing for MA Economics entrance exam are:
- Nicholson & Snyder: Microeconomic Theory
- Osborne: Mathematical Methods for Economic Theory
- Sydsaeter & Hammond: Mathematics for Economic Analysis
- RD Sharma: Class XII Mathematics
- Gujarati: Basic Econometrics
- ACET Stats Pack issued by IAI
The major universities that are targeted by students are Delhi School of Economics (DSE), Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), IGIDR, Madras School of Economics and Hyderabad University. There is a basic requirement of 50% marks in graduation and rest is tested through the above mentioned entrance exam. However, students targeting to pursue the course through distance learning can opt to enroll themselves in Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) which gives admission on merit basis.
